can anyone help me,i recently bought a renault laguna 1.9 dci (120bhp)privilege model, based on parkers review which said the braked towing weight was 1500kg,my caravan is a swift challenger 530se (max gross weight is 1424kg)can i legally pull my caravan?any help would be most grateful

In the menu on the left... Carefully select your car and set or change weights of car and van. A report will show what the capability is of the combination, the maximum towing weight, the maximum train weight of the Renault + van, which is not the same as max. car weight + the 1500 towing mass you mention!! So if it is allowed legally and/or safe the report will show.
My guess is, the van is too heavy and/or the car too light. Good luck.

yes ive tried that and i would be towing at 94%,the guideline is 85% but apparently you can tow upto 100%,the plate on my car says combined weight of 3100kg,car + van is around 2900kg,so am i right in thinking i can tow this van but not as efficiently as, say for instance a ford mondeo tdci.car is booked in tomorrow for towbar fitting!!

Your car is with passengers and campinggear, towbar not more than 1500 kg-ish? Okay it might be 1700, + 1400 of the van is 3100 which is allowed according to the vin plate. 1500 kg is the allowed towing mass of your Renault? So if the Swift is less than it's allowed obviously.
85 or with adequate experience upto 100% of the car's kerb weight is a general and good advise to assure a stable combination. It is one of the things that indluence stability. So 1424/94*100=1515 kg. The latter is the kerb weight of the car. Is it?

What's the full spec of the C4 Craig, 2L what (petrol, diesel?), auto, manual etc. The towing weights differ for different models on the UK spec, between 1100 & 1300kgs, plus as I suspect your new to towing the kerbweight will be a factor too depending when you took your test and estimating the recommended 85% ratio of van to car weight.
