What's the weight of the Abbey - in relation to the 330ci? Performance isn't the problem but an overkill of it will endanger your trip. The car is capable, but are you?
Come on over to Holland and take a sensible caravancourse. Yes, including driving in mountainous regions (we do have these in the NETHERlands and adjacent Belgium) ;-) But seriously we arrange these driving courses and take them very serious!!
In general to driving w/a caravan: downhill = slow / uphill = fast. Stability is an issue driving downhill. So speed should be relatively low then. Balance: heavy stuff in the car between the axles. Heavy stuff in the caravan as far as possible in the centre of it. Nose weight? yes, keep it as low as possible, 'cause your car doesn't like it. Is stability an issue? Remove stuff from extremes to the centre! That is your goal. As a last escape: move things forward and the nose weight will ^^

Can't find the model of van you mention on my data; is the model correct or do you have more info?
The MTPLM or laden weight of the van might be found on a rating label adjacent to the door and this would be useful for you to post.
