I have a BMW 323 convertable. Assuming correct weight ratio is it legal to tow with this car?

Sure, if BMW allows towing, the max. mass can be derived from the VIN plate.

Thanks. My car has a manufacturers towbar. The reason for the query was that I was told that it is not legal to tow a caravan with a convertable. I just wanted to check that out.

Hi Peter.
It's a misconception that convertables are illegal to tow with in the UK.
Providng your towing within the cars recommended limits (and it's worth adopting the 85% of kerbweight guideline too), then their's no legal reason why you can't use the vehicle.
Tow weights etc should be in your handbook or from the VIN plate as Bert's mentioned.
